Zed Code Editor Switches Default AI Model From OpenAI To Anthropic
The Zed code editor has replaced OpenAI's Codex with Anthropic's Claude as the default engine powering its built-in AI code generation and completion features.
Zed has switched its default AI model integration from OpenAI’s Codex to Anthropic’s Claude.
If you use the editor's AI-assisted features for code generation and completion tasks, you will now interface with Anthropic’s architecture for suggestions and automated code generation.
The integration sits in the core of the editor. Existing interaction patterns remain for current users, and the team announced no adjustments to the user interface alongside this model swap.
The transition is live for all developers using the current version of the editor.
