WordPress 7.2 Beta 4 Released for Testing Ahead of December Launch
WordPress 7.2 Beta 4 is now available for testing, featuring key bug fixes, developer API updates, and improvements to the default Ipsum theme.
WordPress 7.2 Beta 4 is ready for testing ahead of the December 8, 2026 release, though you should keep it off production sites. Because WordPress 7.1.4 bundled Beta 3 on October 28, Beta 4 is the next standalone build available.
You can install Beta 4 via the WordPress Beta Tester plugin using the "Bleeding edge" channel and "Beta/RC Only" stream, download the zip directly, or run wp core update --version=7.2-beta4 via WP-CLI. A WordPress Playground instance is also available for browser testing.
This build focuses on bug fixes, compatibility updates, editor reliability, developer APIs, and accessibility. Changes cover Windows High Contrast keyboard focus, administration interfaces, right-to-left block alignment, custom block spacing, revision handling, input validation, and environment compatibility, alongside ongoing work on the Abilities API, DataViews extensibility, and REST API behavior (Trac #45910, #66382, #66427, #66383, #66343, #66329).
The default theme, Ipsum, updates keyboard focus, screen reader links, right-to-left language support, block patterns, touch target spacing, and color palette compatibility (Trac #66352, GitHub #15113). Additionally, the Updates screen now lists individual translation updates so administrators can install them selectively, matching plugin and theme workflows (Trac #42281, GitHub #11610).
Report issues in the support forums or on WordPress Trac, coordinate testing on Make Core or the #core-test Slack channel, and review closed Trac tickets and Gutenberg commits since October 27, 2026 for technical details.
