Wild Linker 0.11.0 Adds WebAssembly Support And Improves Thread Scaling
The latest release of the Wild linker introduces WebAssembly support, expands linker script capabilities, and implements performance optimizations for Linux filesystems.
Wild 0.11.0 adds WebAssembly as a supported platform alongside Linux. Contributor lapla-cogito completed most of the Wasm work during Google Summer of Code 2026. Debug info support is still missing.
Linker script support advanced due to work from vishruth-thimmaiah, also via GSoC 2026. Meanwhile, the macOS port saw heavy development and serves as a default linker for Rust on Mac for at least one maintainer, though it remains unstabilized.
Performance shifted in both directions. Proper COMDAT support cost speed, impacting Rust code by around 1.5%. Conversely, OS-level adjustments fixed performance problems on filesystems like EXT4. Wild now caps its thread count at 32 to avoid contention on a per-inode cache lock in the Linux kernel that previously harmed scaling.
