Symfony AI 1.0.0-BETA1 Released Alongside New MCP Hackathon
Symfony has launched the 1.0.0-BETA1 version of its AI bundle and opened registration for a global hackathon centered on PHP MCP integration.
Symfony AI 1.0.0-BETA1 launched on October 26, 2026, alongside the online Symfony AI & MCP Hackathon. You can install the beta via composer require symfony/ai-bundle:^1.0@beta.
The 1.0 feature set is finalized. Since the backward compatibility promise only applies to 1.0.0 final, this beta period represents the final window for breaking changes. You can test both Symfony AI and the PHP MCP SDK (mcp/sdk) during this time.
The free hackathon runs until November 22, 2026, at 18:00 CET. Participants can work solo or in teams by signing in with Symfony Connect. Entries require a public cloneable repository and a 90-second working video, submitted at symfony.com/hackathon.
Submissions are evaluated on four criteria: creative ideas beyond basic chatbots, working demos, unexpected component and protocol usage, and typed, tested Symfony code with a clear README. Hugging Face provides registered developers with $20 in Inference Providers credits.
Report bugs to github.com/symfony/ai/issues and github.com/modelcontextprotocol/php-sdk/issues. Sponsors include Symfony, Hugging Face, SensioLabs, Upsun, Sulu, and JetBrains.
