SonarQube Server 2026.5 LTA Adds Native Support for R Programming

The latest SonarQube Server 2026.5 LTA release introduces native static analysis for R and R Markdown, alongside infrastructure and quality profile updates.

SonarQube Server 2026.5 LTA ships with native static code analysis for R projects. As a long-term active version, self-managed installations will likely standardize on this release.

R support provides parsing, syntax highlighting, code metrics, and analysis of R code embedded within R Markdown documents. You can check the complete list of language rules in the documentation site's LTA-to-LTA release notes.

For reporting, the software imports Cobertura format coverage reports and external issues from lintr. While importing coverage and lintr findings was previously possible, native parsing, metrics, and R Markdown handling now work without extra configuration.

Additional updates in this LTA cycle include a new default quality profile named "Sonar way core" for new installations, issue backdating based on the last commit date of the affected line, and a mandatory requirement for PostgreSQL 15 or later. If you are currently running version 2026.1 LTA, you can upgrade directly to 2026.5 LTA.
