Prisma v8.0.0-rc.20 Released With CLI Updates and Schema Changes
Prisma v8.0.0-rc.20 introduces breaking CLI pipe changes, new schema type aliases, temporal types, and enhanced migration handling for PostgreSQL and MongoDB.
Prisma v8.0.0-rc.20 updates the ORM toolchain, CLI behavior, and schema definition capabilities alongside CLI engine version 0.9.0.
Piped CLI commands now print plain data lines to standard output and route human-readable text to standard error. Automated scripts expecting JSON responses must now pass the --json flag explicitly.
Type aliases in the Prisma Schema Language now configure @default, @onCreate, and @onUpdate directives directly. Built-in temporal types temporal.CreatedAt and temporal.UpdatedAt are available across PostgreSQL, SQLite, and MongoDB. The storage layer records real column types instead of alias names, altering stored contract hashes and requiring existing contracts and migration snapshots to be updated.
PostgreSQL migrations now handle renaming, moving, and removing namespaces directly. The migration planner modifies relation actions like onDelete or onUpdate, and handles primary key changes or removals by dropping and restoring dependent foreign keys. Supabase integration updates require the pg option to accept a connection pool instead of a client, and consolidate role-based operations under a single forRole binding method.
MongoDB support includes stricter validation for enum members and discriminators. Quoted enum members are restricted to text-compatible types, meaning numerical values, NaN, and infinities must be written unquoted. SQL and TypeScript builders enforce stricter type checking, requiring SQL inserts to explicitly include all non-nullable columns lacking a default value.
