PlayCanvas Editor 2.34 Launches With New Real-Time Inspector Debug Panel

The latest PlayCanvas update introduces a powerful open-source Inspector for real-time debugging alongside significant physics and rendering enhancements.

PlayCanvas Editor 2.34 ships with a new open-source debug panel called the Inspector, which gives you real-time control over applications. You launch it by selecting the Inspector option to open a docked panel on the right side of the viewport, showing the entity hierarchy and live component values.

The tool includes tabs for monitoring cameras, assets, textures, meshes, materials, scripts, memory, shaders, and physics. Because it uses the underlying engine, you can pause execution, step through frames, and manipulate entities directly. Using the Inspector requires Engine 2.23 or later, and older versions will log a warning.

Physics updates bring a Gravity Scale for dynamic rigidbodies. You can apply a per-body multiplier to world gravity where 1 is standard, 0 ignores it, and -1 reverses it, removing the need for custom counter-force scripts.

Rendering changes in version 2.34 include a Splat Budget Mode in rendering settings, plus restored LOD Base Distance and LOD Multiplier fields on the GSplat component. You can now toggle Use Fog and Use Tonemapping on individual particle systems.

Version control adds a "Discard All" option that reverts changes since the last checkpoint and creates a safety checkpoint first. Other additions include support for material UV channels 2 through 7, a GLSL shader transpilation setting for WebGPU, and Antigravity IDE support.
