Microsoft Releases Mssql-python 1.16.0 With Python 3.15 And Conda Support

The latest version of Microsoft's Python driver for SQL Server introduces Python 3.15 compatibility, Conda distribution, performance enhancements, and an experimental Rust-based provider.

Version 1.16.0 of mssql-python is now available. Microsoft's official Python driver for SQL Server adds Python 3.15 compatibility and an official distribution channel via Conda. You can install the package using pip install --upgrade mssql-python or conda install -c microsoft mssql-python.

Performance updates focus on faster row construction, batch fetching processes, temporal conversion, and positional row access. A new read-only row._mapping view provides a dict-style interface for handling rows.

The release also includes an experimental, opt-in Rust-based mssql-odbc provider for testing alternative implementations within your database connectivity stack. Bug fixes address connection pooling, Windows shutdown behavior, bulk copy operations, and encoding warnings.

Full technical documentation and a detailed breakdown of the changes are available on the official Microsoft SQL Server developer blog.
