Microsoft Releases DebugMCP-CLI to Enable Terminal-Based AI Debugging

Microsoft has launched a command-line interface for DebugMCP, allowing developers to integrate AI-driven debugging capabilities directly into terminal workflows without needing an IDE.

Microsoft released DebugMCP-CLI, following DebugMCP surpassing 15,000 installations. The command-line interface expansion provides AI-driven debugging capabilities to development environments without requiring integration into an Integrated Development Environment or specific software like VS Code.

The CLI-based architecture lets you apply debugging functions directly through terminal workflows. Decoupling these diagnostic tools from GUI-based editors allows the utility to function independently of your primary code environment, providing access to debugging logic where traditional IDE plugins are missing or unsupported.

DebugMCP operates as a Model Context Protocol server that facilitates interaction between AI agents and local debugging harnesses. Adding the CLI enables you to invoke these debugging processes manually or via shell scripts, supporting automation workflows that rely on command-line execution rather than manual intervention within a graphical editor.

The project extends the utility of AI agents by giving them specific debugging skills. Shifting these functions into a CLI moves the architecture toward a modular design that integrates with existing terminal-based toolchains.
