Microsoft.Data.SqlClient 7.1.0 Released With Critical Fixes and New Features
Microsoft has released version 7.1.0 of the SQL Client driver, addressing critical connection pooling bugs and introducing diagnostic application identification.
Microsoft.Data.SqlClient 7.1.0 is generally available. You can add it using dotnet add package Microsoft.Data.SqlClient --version 7.1.0.
This update fixes a critical bug where pooled connections returned in a broken state after a TransactionScope rollback. It also resolves negative connection pool performance counter values caused by failures, and stops unnecessary background process activity from connection factory timers when no active pools exist.
Data handling fixes address DateOnly types incorrectly sent as SQL types through variants or Table-Valued Parameters, and prevent an OverflowException with large decimal parameters using explicit precision and scale in Always Encrypted scenarios. Additionally, GetSchema("DataTypes") for Azure SQL now correctly reports the JSON data type.
A new feature, SqlConnection.RegisteredApplication, lets libraries and tools like Entity Framework Core, SQL Server Management Studio, and SqlPackage report their identity for diagnostics without affecting authorization.
The TransparentNetworkIPResolution property is now obsolete. You should use MultiSubnetFailover instead.
