Linux Kernel 7.4 Removes C Implementation of Android Binder Driver

Linux 7.4 has officially replaced the legacy C-based Android Binder IPC driver with the stable Rust implementation.

Linux 7.4 drops the C implementation of Android's Binder inter-process communication driver. Linus Torvalds merged this removal on Saturday within the char/misc pull request, leaving the Rust Binder driver as the sole version going forward.

Google originally wrote the C driver, which accumulated complexity over Android's history and became difficult to maintain. Plans to retire it surfaced in September. Greg Kroah-Hartman submitted the char/misc pull request, stating that the C code was removed because the Rust version is stable and will operate in a few billion devices.

As one of the earliest prominent Rust drivers in the kernel, the Rust implementation reached feature parity with the original C driver and outperforms it in some tests. Google now focuses strictly on this Rust code for Android's IPC mechanism.

Alongside this change, the same pull request delivers IIO driver updates and various small fixes across other drivers.
