Libreboot 26.10 Ominous Olive Adds Full UEFI Support And New Hardware

The latest Libreboot release introduces full UEFI support via the EDK2 payload and expands compatibility to over 200 new Chromebooks and several desktop and server motherboards.

Libreboot 26.10 "Ominous Olive" brings full UEFI support to the free and open-source boot firmware.

The update integrates the MrChromebox EDK2 payload as the default for most supported boards. To maintain backward compatibility, the flash image includes SeaBIOS CSM and GRUB EFI directly. GRUB EFI now uses terminal_input console and runs without nativedisk, relying on EDK2 drivers to boot and supporting eMMC storage on Chromebooks.

Hardware support grows with 233 additional Chromebooks, covering every board supported by the MrChromebox coreboot implementation. New device additions also include the Dell OptiPlex 5050 SFF, the Supermicro X11SSH-F, and the Lenovo ThinkPad X280 and X270. These machines can now run modern Linux distributions using UKI and systemd-boot, alongside Windows compatibility.

For the KCMA-D8 and KGPE-D16 server-grade motherboards, the release integrates the 15h.org coreboot fork to improve RAM initialization. On supported Chromebook hardware, the Intel HAP bit is now set by default, and Intel Flash Descriptor regions are unlocked where deemed appropriate for user configuration.
