Godot 4.8 Beta 2 Released With 144 Fixes And .NET 10 Requirements
Godot 4.8 beta 2 is now available, featuring 144 fixes for engine regressions and updating the minimum required .NET runtime version to 10.0.
Godot 4.8 beta 2 is available two weeks after the initial beta milestone. The 4.8 cycle is feature-complete, shifting focus to stability and regression triage, with 59 contributors submitting 144 fixes that resolve nearly 150 regressions across the engine.
GDScript now applies completion declarations to variables defined in for loops, and the editor's expression evaluator runs properly inside static functions. Animation tools received a correction for a bug where collapsing the time of a bezier track using box scaling generated invalid undo data. For C# developers, GodotSharp debug builds now have compiler optimizations enabled, while the minimum required runtime version for .NET builds shifted from .NET 8 to .NET 10.0 or newer.
The Compatibility renderer resolved an issue where multiply blending rendered too dark, and particle systems now use a default angle curve range of [-1, 1]. In GUI handling, BaseButton now checks the visible viewport rectangle before processing touch events. Unicode assets were updated to version 18.0.0, the Asset Store's default sorting method was reset to relevance, and the continuous integration pipeline's minimum Python version was raised from 3.9 to 3.10.
Godot 4.8 beta 2 is available as standard and .NET binaries for Linux, macOS, and Windows, alongside testing builds for the Web, XR, and Android editors. Maintainers advise backing up projects and using version control while reporting remaining regressions.
