GitHub Copilot Introduces Dynamic Workflows for Automated Task Execution

GitHub has expanded its Copilot CLI and application interfaces to support programmable, multi-step workflows that combine automated processes with AI agent operations.

GitHub Copilot added dynamic workflows to its CLI and application interfaces. You can use them to programmatically define how tasks execute by combining automated steps with AI agent operations. Workflows support linear execution, parallel execution, or a mix of both.

The feature targets complex, multi-step processes and recurring operations that need consistency. Codifying these sequences ensures repetitive tasks run identically every time, which cuts down on manual oversight and procedural drift.

Take system outage investigations as a practical example. A configured workflow can pull logs and telemetry data while separate agents analyze different system components in parallel. The system then merges individual agent findings into a unified timeline and root-cause report.

This public release brings an internal tool previously used for operational tasks out to developers. Technical documentation and a changelog are available if you want to integrate dynamic workflows into your environment.
