GhostBSD 26.2-R15.1p6 Released With FreeBSD 15.1 Base and New Installer

The latest GhostBSD release introduces a two-part installation process, improved disk encryption support, and a significantly leaner base image.

GhostBSD 26.2-R15.1p6 lands on a FreeBSD 15.1-RELEASE base with a replaced installer, GELI full disk encryption support, and a smaller ISO. Announced on October 27, 2026, the updated installation flow splits into two parts. Install Station writes the system to disk and adds a ZFS page, a network page, and translations for all supported languages. Setup Station then executes on first boot to configure networks and create user accounts.

Tooling updates rename Backup Station to BE Station, which can create a boot environment from the currently selected one. Update Station handles minor and release upgrades inside a boot environment. NetworkMgr utilizes wpa_cli for Wi-Fi and saves networks only after successful connections, while Software Station gains case-sensitive search and pins itself if you add Mocka Dock to the MATE panel.

The leaner base image removes 46 server and legacy packages. The boot menu is hidden by default, appearing on a keypress with an option to unmute boot logs, and USB HID devices work out of the box via usbhid. MATE adds a Ctrl+Alt+T terminal shortcut. Bug fixes resolve AX200 Wi-Fi issues, open networks, wrong-password alerts, non-ASCII network names, the missing EFI fallback loader for Ventoy, and timezone configuration during installation. Security updates address disk device permissions, NetworkMgr input validation, and the removal of the deprecated crypt module.
