Fedora Linux 45 Released With Native Stratis Storage Support
Fedora Linux 45 is now available, introducing native Stratis storage management in the Anaconda installer and retiring several legacy VPN plugins.
Fedora Linux 45 landed on November 3, 2026, bringing native Anaconda installer support for Stratis storage to help you handle device-mapper, XFS, and LUKS through a single interface that handles thin provisioning, storage pooling, dynamic filesystem sizing, snapshots, and encryption.
When you run graphical installs with custom partitioning, you can open the Cockpit storage module inside Anaconda to build Stratis pools across physical drives and create dynamic / and /home filesystems. Automated setups can use the new --type=stratis parameter with autopart, alongside dedicated stratispool and stratisfs kickstart commands for scripting layouts without manual configuration.
You also need to check your VPN connections, because the unmaintained NetworkManager-vpnc and NetworkManager-fortisslvpn plugins are obsolete in this version, requiring you to migrate to a supported alternative using the guide published on Fedora Magazine.
The software stack includes updated development tools, runtime libraries, and recent Linux kernels that deliver broader hardware support, laptop power management, and container performance improvements. GNOME, KDE Plasma, and community desktop spins receive updated environments featuring refined Wayland support and fractional scaling, while the full set of changes sits on the Fedora change set page.
You can grab installation media from getfedora.org in flagship Editions including Workstation, KDE Plasma Desktop, Server, Cloud, CoreOS, and IoT, alongside Atomic Desktops like Silverblue, Kinoite, and Sericea, plus Cinnamon, Xfce, MATE, and COSMIC spins. Existing systems can upgrade via user documentation or the Silverblue rebase guide, while the Ask Fedora forum tracks known issues and workarounds.
