Enlightenment 0.28.0 Released With PipeWire Support and Networking Updates
Enlightenment 0.28.0 arrives with native PipeWire support, a new NetworkManager module, enhanced battery management, and various stability and memory fixes.
Enlightenment 0.28.0 dropped on October 31, 2026, requiring EFL 1.29.0 or newer alongside libexif and libpam on Linux. You get a new NetworkManager module handling Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Bluetooth, and VPNs, with automatic detection for both NetworkManager and ConnMan back ends. The networking stack features traffic indicators, threaded polling, VPN imports, and fixes for startup detection and dialog spam after suspend.
Native PipeWire support joins PulseAudio in the mixer, while an integrated clipboard history module provides persistent, themed popups. Battery handling introduces charge limits, worker-thread polling, and a capped health display of 100%, alongside ACPI CPU power profiles and AMD GPU power settings. Process priority shifts to the system helper, removing the need for CAP_SYS_NICE.
Window management adds a "Roll Up" shading transition and stacking actions, while display fixes resolve monitor disconnects, CRTC shutdown, and startup black screens. Memory safety improvements patch use-after-free errors in notification popups, reference counting in the system tray and D-Bus menus, and icon double frees. Per-desktop and per-screen profile support has been removed.
Watchdog monitoring starts earlier, logging now includes timestamps, and Valgrind startup support is back. Recommended optional dependencies include ConnMan, BlueZ 5, PulseAudio, PipeWire, PackageKit, udisks2, and ddcutil.
