Electron 46.0.0-alpha.3 Released With Security and Performance Updates
Electron 46.0.0-alpha.3 fixes a Windows startup crash, addresses security vulnerabilities, and includes performance improvements for net.fetch and file URLs.
Electron 46.0.0-alpha.3 is available on npm under the alpha tag as of October 29. You can install it using npm install electron@alpha or pin it with npm install [email protected].
This pre-release fixes a Windows startup crash that occurred on systems where the NUL device was unavailable. It also closes security gaps in the File System Access blocklist for .git files, shell startup and configuration files, and UNC shares. Additionally, webContents.adjustSelection() no longer ignores its end option, a fix that is backported to the 44 and 45 release lines.
For performance, net.fetch() requests without a body run faster, a change included in the 43, 44, and 45 lines. Repeated calls for file: URLs also run faster, with this update included in 44 and 45. The release notes do not provide benchmark figures for either fetch improvement.
Chromium is updated to 158.0.8127.0. The project has flagged the build as an alpha and asks you to file new issues for any bugs you find.
