Atuin 18.24 Introduces Threads for Syncing Coding Agent Sessions

Atuin 18.24 adds Threads, a feature that lets developers index, sync, and resume coding-agent sessions across multiple machines via end-to-end encryption.

Atuin 18.24 introduces Threads, a feature that indexes coding-agent sessions and syncs them across machines. Announced on October 27, 2026, the update lets you search past sessions, resume them elsewhere, or fork them into a different agent.

Ellie Huxtable notes that over half the commands on her machines are now written by agents, resulting in sessions scattered across laptops, dev servers, ephemeral cloud instances, and bare metal boxes. While standard shell history records what ran without the reasoning, agent sessions keep the commands, output, user intent, and dead ends.

Threads reuses Atuin's existing sync engine for append-only logs. Synced sessions are end-to-end encrypted, and you can use the hosted sync server, run your own, or keep data local. Capturing sessions is opt-in, currently supporting Claude Code, Codex, Pi, Omp, and OpenCode, with more agents planned. Running atuin resume opens the session browser.

You can also query this history via an MCP server started with atuin mcp. It installs automatically for Claude, Codex, Pi, and OpenCode using atuin mcp install followed by the agent's name. Additionally, Atuin is developing opt-in session sharing for teams to hand off agent threads like Git branches.

You can get Threads in Atuin 18.24 and later by installing or updating with curl --proto '=https' --tlsv1.2 -LsSf https://setup.atuin.sh | sh.
