Apple Opens Siri AI to All Apps in iOS 27.3 Developer Preview
The iOS 27.3 developer beta allows third-party apps to integrate with Siri AI via App Intents and introduces a new skill chaining system for developers.
iOS 27.3 betas arrived Tuesday with a Developer Preview opening Siri AI to every app. Previously limited to predefined categories like messaging and to-do lists, developers can now expose actions using App Intents. Siri AI runs these from plain-language requests and passes content between apps, while displaying results in cards using the app's own design.
The preview introduces "skills," which teach Siri AI to chain multiple actions into one job through a Markdown file named SKILL.md. Anthropic created a similar add-on format for Claude. Apple notes these files provide guidance rather than deterministic scripts. Xcode now includes a Siri Integration Advisor alongside a SiriEvaluations framework for scripting requests and checking handling.
Currently, third-party app integration is restricted to developer builds and internal TestFlight testers, while external testers and App Store versions remain excluded. Apple's own apps gain new Siri AI actions across Calendar, Files, Finder, Journal, Mail, Maps, Messages, Music, Notes, Photos, Preview, Reminders, Safari, Shortcuts, and Weather.
Apple Intelligence hardware is required. Supported languages include English, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish, with Traditional Chinese, Norwegian, Turkish, and Vietnamese arriving soon. The feature remains unavailable in the EU on iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch, and users under 13 cannot access it. Daily usage limits apply, which Apple plans to make expandable for a fee. Additionally, the beta initiates Apple Intelligence testing in mainland China for December with Alibaba's Qwen and without Siri AI.
