Apollo Router 2.19.0 Adds Redis Caching for Connectors
The latest Apollo Router release introduces Redis-backed caching for REST and HTTP connectors and moves the connector request service to the public Rust plugin interface.
Apollo Router 2.19.0 is out. You can now cache REST and HTTP connector responses in Redis using Cache-Control semantics for Apollo Connectors, which cuts load on upstream services.
The system uses a dedicated configuration block and supports explicit cache-key headers to block data-disclosure risks, per-user caching via private_id, and existing invalidation endpoints. Plus, connector_request_service moves to the public plugin interface. This lets Rust custom plugins wrap individual connector HTTP requests in-process without a full round trip.
Connectors also gain ->withWarning and ->withError mapping methods. These flag suspect values or report client errors without failing entire fields.
Beyond connectors, the release fixes query deduplication edge cases, reduces memory usage during query graph construction, and patches an issue where internal Rhai script errors and raw router states leaked in client-facing error responses.
Other bug fixes stop error responses from unintentionally disabling response caching for a query and resolve an issue where the Kubernetes Helm chart rendered duplicate ports when health checks shared the main port.
Upgrading won't change default behavior unless you explicitly turn on the new configuration options.
